Greyhound racing adopts NASCAR's model
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - Officials at the Corpus Christi Dog Track debuted a new program this weekend, unveiling new racing greyhounds complete with advertisements on the side. "Seems like it works for NASCAR," said track spokesman Hollis Jackson. "And the dogs don't seem to mind."

Companies initially balked at the idea, but Jackson said that early plans to tattoo the ads on the sides of the dogs were scrapped in favor of temporary decals. "That seemed like the way to go," Jackson said. "The dogs really didn't take to the tattoos. It made them a lot slower, too, because they were so sore. And depressed."

Ian Frederickson, CEO of Ralston-Purina Company, said that he was excited to be a part of the new program. "I think we could really be on to something," he said. "Dog lovers tend to come out to the track, and that's just the demographic we want to reach. The dogs run awfully fast, so the ads are hard to see, and there's really no television exposure to speak of, and the dogs aren't that big in the first place. There are a few bugs to iron out, I guess. But I think we're on to something."
